I am an international student and currently holding a study permit.I just hope to know if it is legally possible to change my status from full-time student to part-time student.(I am already been a full-time student for 3 semesters, so this is fine by my university's regulations) If so, I'd also like to know if this will affect my application for Post graduation work permit in the future, since it requires that "You must have studied full time in Canada and you must have completed a program of study that lasted at least eight months."

Another questions is, if I eventually become part-time, how could I work on campus (more specifically, as research assistant)? According to CIC, been a part-time student disallows it, but does it legalize it if I apply for a work permit?

I want to thank everyone in advance!

Yes you can change your status from full time part time subject to completion of at least two semesters. However, you must check with your Uni as once program is converted into Part time, fee is first of all charged not semester wise but rather credit wise (subject wise) and is expensive almost 50 to 80 % higher than regular fee. This requires approval of your program co-coordinator, he should first approve you and then you can make the request at the International center.

I think once you convert it into part time studies (your PGWP will be according to duration of study as full time student). Lets see what other's have to say on this.

Lets wait to hear from others on the last question you raised.

Hi,

You can't be a part-time student.
Exception- If you need to go part-time in last semester to graduate.

You don't need any work permit to work on campus.
Just get the employment letter from school employer.
Go to service Canada. They will issue you a temporary SIN number.

Good Luck.
