I am a UK citizen and am looking to visit a friend and take a holiday in Canada for 4 weeks. I will have a return ticket and proof of funds for my stay.

Big problem is. In 2008 I entered Canada on a work visa and stayed legally working until Feb 2011. Whilst living in Canada I opened a bank account and 2 visa card accounts. I left Canada in a hurry as my employer went out of business and didn't pay me for 6 weeks (I never got the money owed) So I ran out of money and returned to the UK quick (my work visa was tied to one employer). But still owed money on my Canadian accounts, the total owed is less than $2500 but it's still a debt, to this day I haven't paid the debt. I am worried that this will affect my entry into Canada & I will be denied because of the unpaid debt.

Does anyone know if the the Canadian immigration will have records of this unpaid debt and bring it up.

BTW. I have contacted all my creditors and am setting up payment with them when I get into Canada

I have contacted the Canadian immigration, but they cannot clear this up for me. They say it is unlikely to be an issue, but they cannot give me a yes or no.

I just don't want to fly all the way there to be denied entry.

I know it was a stupid thing to do, but I am in the process of fixing it.

I just want to see if there is anyone else who has done the same or similar thing.

Private debt, no interest to Immigration.
