Can I ask IRCC for a Review and Clarification regarding my delayed application?

My PR application has been in process for around three and a half years. I have provided the requested documents and information within the required timelines whenever IRCC asked for them.

Despite this, my application has experienced a very long processing delay, and after approximately three and a half years, it was referred for Comprehensive Security Screening (CSS).

I am considering submitting a formal Request for Review and Clarification to IRCC to respectfully ask about the prolonged processing and the timing of the CSS referral.

I would like to know from people who have had similar experiences:

- Is it appropriate to send IRCC such a request?
- Has anyone submitted a Review/Clarification request regarding a long processing delay?
- Could sending a respectful and factual request have any negative impact on the application?

I am not asking IRCC to bypass the normal process or give me preferential treatment. I simply want clarification regarding the prolonged processing and whether anything further is required from my side.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience.

You will not be given any further information about why you were referred to CSS or how long it will take to be processed by IRCC. If you filed for PR in 2023 it is not significantly delayed.

I am not asking IRCC to disclose the details of the security screening or to give me an estimated completion date.

I understand that IRCC may not provide a detailed response or change the security screening process. I simply want to make sure that my explanation, timeline and point of view are properly communicated and placed on record.

That is the clarification I am asking about.

No they will just tell you your application is being processed. It appears as though you are a dependent abroad so your processing time is not significantly prolonged. Unless part of the pilot program processing for non-minor dependents of protected people is a long process and has gotten longer as the volume of protected people and refugees have increased significantly in Canada. The backlog of applicants and the set annual quotas increase processing times on top of CSS. If marrying abroad while a protected person you must realize you will likely face a long separation. If your CSS takes over 2 years I would suggest speaking to a lawyer about mandamus.
