Can I apply for spouse Open Work Permit while PR application is in process.

Hi Everyone,

I received my Ontario PNP certificate in 2012 and have applied for PR. Currently I am staying in Canada with Post Graduation Work Permit. I am working in a consulting firm. My job is NOC A category and code number is NOC 5121. Position title is Technical Writer. Hopefully within month I will receive my medical request. However, I am planning to go to my country Bangladesh in this August to get married. As far as I know, I must inform CIC about my status change ASAP. therefore I will inform CIC once I get married. However, meantime I am planning to apply for Open Work Permit for my wife from Bangladesh. Can I apply for her OWP while I add her as dependent in my PR application. Should I apply for her work permit before informing CIC. How much bank balance will be sufficient enough in this case. I will submit my job description letter from my company and Pay slip.

I would appreciate any suggestion in this regard.

I have been on a LMO from last 8 months but I have also applied for my PR under Canadian Experience Class last month. Am i eliginle to get an open work permit once I get my file no. As right now under a work permit with the company who sponsored me. Just want an open work permit. Pls advice

Unfortunately no, applying for PR under CEC doesn't make you eligible for an open work permit. Open work permits are issued only in certain circumstances (for example to spouses of international students, spouses of high skilled workers, people on Working Holiday Visas).

From your previous posts, it appears your husband is an MBA student, is that right? On that basis, you could apply for an open work permit.

What program would you be applying for PR under?

Your husband's current status is skilled job with work permit. That is all that is needed for OWP. So you should apply for that. TRV is usually a bad choice because you are trying to look like visiting for a short time which is never realistic. Spouses live with their partners, not just visit them for shorter intervals.
