Can I apply for LMO and PR at the same time?

Hi everyone,

My WHV is going to expire in June 16th. The HR of my company is going to apply for the Work Permit with LMO. At the same time, I want to apply for Permanent Residence via common law sponsorship. Would I be able to do so? Or it is not possible to apply for 2 visas at the same time?

By the way, I have talked to 6 CIC agents, 4 lawyers, my HR, and an immigration officer in charge of visa approvals, and a friend who actually did it, and ALL of them told me that I can get Implied Status if I apply for the WP with LMO before my WHV expires. I asked the same question to so many people because I read in this forum that you cannot get implied status with IEC visas, so I wanted to make sure that that information was correct. I am still not 100% sure, but that is a lot of people saying you can, so I dont know what to think.

Thank you.

Emma

Regardless what anyone tells you, the fact remains that people have been caught working on expired WHV under impression of having implied status, and have had their PR apps delayed significantly because of it.

Granted the chance of being caught is incredibly small, as so many people (including those at CIC) believe that WHV does have implied status. Most likely if you continue to work under assumption of implied status, nothing will happen to you. But just be aware of what has happened to at least a few people.

Thanks for your answer Rob_TO. Could you please tell me who in this forum got "caught" so I can talk to them and clarify this situation? Is there any thread here where those people who had trouble for being in implied status talk about their experience? Thanks so much!

Thanks so much Rob_TO! I am now sure that I won't continue working.
