Pre-Assessed..
Hey all, I was wondering if I could apply for an open work permit / study permit? I am in Canada in the process of submitting my spousal application and I have a visitor's record for 2 years. I have read around that if someone in my position applies for these permits, that they are likely to be rejected. Can someone please help me? Thank you.

If you apply for an OWP, ensure you attach it to the PR application and request that they do not process it before they assess your PR application for approval in principle. If they process the work permit before the PR application, you would likely be rejected, yes. If the assessment is does before and you receive AIP, the chances are firm you would get an OWP.

A student permit is somewhat different in that you need to show you are going to pursue the course of study and are accepted to the school. That can be processed before you have AIP, to assist you to begin attending school in the semester planned for.
