Can email from my son be submitted as letter of invitation

I plan to visit my son studyng undergrad at uni in Canada. Can I submit his email to from his uni email address to me as letter of invitation. In this he had invited me, he has added a proposed itinerary and has proposed dates to visit him.

There are visa offices that require a notarized invitation letter (check with your local visa office). If required, your son should make a letter and have it notarized then, send it to you.
