Hi,

I am currently studying in Canada as an international student and have a question regarding my dependents. Is it permissible under Canadian law for them to enroll in distance learning programs from another country while residing with me in Canada?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide a reference to a government website where I can find further information on this matter.

Thank you.

What are their status in Canada?

You haven't said which province you are in. If you are in Ontario, this may help: https://stepstojustice.ca/steps/education/1-understand-who-must-attend-school/

If you have any plans on remaining in Canada attending school in Canada earlier versus later is always a good idea. Children are also able to learn languages so easily at a young age and being bilingual in French and English is a huge benefit when it come to employment across Canada. Although your children could attend English public school as children of international students they would have to change to French schools as PRs so it would be easier to start French language schooling earlier. Across Canada many have to enter a lottery to get a coveted French immersion spot. Children also benefit so much from social interaction with their peers. If you do plan on “homeschooling” your children I hope you join other homeschooling groups that seem to organize field trips, social events, etc. so children can still benefit from the social aspect and typical experiences that come with attending school in person school.

Thanks for your replies.

There is a big chance that we return to our home country during the coming academic year, hence I was thinking to enroll them in a distance learning so that they get familiar with the curriculum there before moving.

I thought about the homeschooling option, but to my knowledge I have to show a plan of the homeschooling, and my question indeed is to know what would be the response from the minster if I tell them that they will start distanced learning with a school abroad.

Hard to say Quebec is probably the least flexible province when it comes to these type of issues so hard to predict. Would contact your local school board.
