Hello,
I am a UK citizen coming to Canada (QB) for 3 months as visiting researcher in McGill. The school I want to send my children to needs a permission for them to attend school. Will the visitor's record I get at the border say the children can attend school in Canada?

Many thanks,
Irit

It will likely have more to do with your status in Canada. If you have a work visa you may be allowed to register your child. Given that the school is asking for documentation for your child to attend they will want a study permit and likely want you to pay international fees.

Thank a lot for replying. i do not need a work visa as my own university pays for my visit, and i am a uk citizen. Do you have experience with the visitor's record and what it says about school?

If you and your child are both visitors you don't qualify for schooling. There are some school boards that admit any child regardless of legal status but that is a decision that each school board makes on their own.

As a UK citizen then my understanding usually as a visitor then from CBSA the most you might expect is an entry stamp without a date meaning a default stay of 6 months or a stamp with an exit by date. So no visitor record as such and no mention about school just authorisation to enter the country as visitors.

Assume also your university is covering all of your family with travel insurance ?

Thank you so much for this helpful reply. I will go back to the McGill people...

Yes, but I was told that I can ask for Visitor's record at the border, and since I have an invitation letter from McGill, I will be able to get one, and the document will say that my children can go to school. I was hoping to find someone who had the same experience and can corroborate this information Thanks a lot for replying..
