the question says it all,

Basically i am wondering if Canada immigration is able to get in touch with other 3rd country's immigration and border services to see if a person ever crossed that country's border. Do they have this kind of "partnership" with countries around the world? anyone know?

No guessing please, only replies who has had experience in the past or good knowledge. Thanks a lot!!!!

It all depends if Canada and the other country have sharing of information together if they do then yes information can be obtained.

Great example. Canada and the US.

I know you don't want guesses, but I'd say yes.

I've seen people on this forum get into trouble because they did not write about having previously been denied a visa, or having been deported from another country, but CIC found out and accused them of misrepresentation.

I think it's fair to say CIC does not take anyone's word for it and will do background checks independently of what you claim on your application, or even your police certificate. That's why the background/criminality is last on the checks they do at the VO - first they check your relationship proofs to see if you are a legit couple (they can do that themselves based on what you send them) and they check your medicals (on the database - easy enough). They leave the background/criminality part for last because it takes more time and resources, and they don't want to do all this if an applicant is inadmissible for medical reasons or fails to qualify as a legit couple. When people order their GCMS notes, they see that the background/criminality is the last thing that gets done.

I say yes. There was a case whereby the PR family from UAE obtained Canadian citizenship by fraud by claiming they stayed in Canada when they were in UAE the whole time. CIC was able to get their records from UAE to prove they were not in Canada and do not meet residency rules to qualify, even lost their PR status as they didn't even meet PR RO either.

I can confirm this. Canada and the US shares not just border entry/exit. They share a heck of lot more. Some of it were cases of Canada being strong-armed into it (see FATCA).

CIC will request their own background checks for countries where the applicant has resided. It is more than just criminality checks. It is reasonable that they will also request entry/exit data.

Thanks so much for the your replies. it really helps a lot to have people who are willing to help and share their knowledge.

So let's say if a person visited another country for a surgery (did not reside there, just for surgery), CIC is possibly able to verify thay they crossed the border if that country, correct?

BTW, the country is not USA.

Canada could verify it by seeing your entry/exit stamp in your passport. CiC will know you entered Canada as it records all entrance. When CiC sees that you entered Canada, it will want to know when you actually left Canada.

Canada shares with the US, UK, AU, EU member states that is just to give you an idea I am thinking there are a lot more too.

If they really really wanted to, they can get it. It's just a matter of if they want to use the resources to do so (they would have to be suspicious of something to want to dig further).

This type of info tends to not be broadcast publicly . The sharing with the USA is so obvious that they just make it public (and it is good for PR too).

I think some information like visa refusal will not be kept forever but it is possible to be kept for ten years.

There's really a very straight-forward answer. Be 100% truthful in your application and assume CIC has access to everything. If you're 100% truthful in your application you have nothing to worry about.

i am not sure why or how you are trying to hide this information.

when you cross your country border to another country they will obviously ask for your passport and stamp your entry regardless of how good relations your country or other country have.

And you cannot hide your passport, you have to show your passport whenever you enter canada by lying or saying truth.

if you say i have now got the new passport and old is expired or lost. I am not sure about your country but my country mentions the old passport number in the new passport so they can track whr did u go in the past.

everything is computerized my friend and you cannot fool technology.

all my statements go false if you crossed the border illegaly ;)

your passport is the proof you have travelled outside your country.
