My wife is PR and she is applying me as PR through sponsorship. My PR is still under process and I will come to Toronto as visitor soon. I don't have driver license in my home country. So my question is:

Can a visitor without driver license in home country attend the local driver examination (i.e. G1, then G2) to obtain an official driver license in Ontario?

Thanks in advance.

You have to wait 8 months between the time you give your G1 and you G2 road test

A visitor and a holder of TRV is a different matter. A visitor for couple of weeks will not get driving licence in Canada.

That wasn't the question, as a visitor he can apply for a G1 license, which allows him to drive, with restrictions.

Visitor Record (IMM 1442)

Thanks. Then another question is: how to obtain visitor record IMM1442? I google around and someone mention if one applies visitor visa extension after 6-month expiry, he/she will obtain IMM 1442.

However is there any way to obtain IMM1442 before entry to Canada? If yes, I can go to apply driver license through exam immediately after I arrive Toronto.

Thanks. again

No. What you are trying to do is beyond what a TRV allows you to do. A visitor record is given when the entry officer or immigration state that you are an exception to the 6 month rule. Therefore you have to be in Canada.

You know that if you get the licence you can't drive alone, right? You need to be accompanied by someone who has a valid drivers licence. If you are driving with someone else who can drive why would you do all this?

Get an international driver's licence. If you are in such a need to drive.

The only way would be to ask at the border when you enter Canada.

Just how would s/he get an IDL? Said he doesn't have a driver's license from his home country.
