Hello

My husband has a business registered as a Sole Proprietorship in Ontario. He does upholstery work from our home.

His brother is a master sewer/upholsterer/tailor and has 20+ years' experience doing this type of work.

I have two questions:

1) Can a 'sole proprietor business' sponsor a foreign worker?

2) Can that worker be a relative, in this case brother?

Thanks in advance

1. He can certainly try. The first step will be to advertise the role for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be hired. Your husband will then have to pay a $1K processing fee and submit an LMIA application for processing. The processing of the LMIA application will likely take 2-4 months. If the LMIA is approved (no guarantee it will be), his brother can then apply for a work permit.
2. Yes - this can be a relative.
