Hello,

I want to know whether my girlfriend can sponsor me to come to Canada.

She is:

18 years old
move out of her house and staying under co-ops
a student in a university

We are planning to get married next year in Bangladesh and my parents are eager to support her education in Canada.

Please advise.

Regards

well if shes a PR and goes to india and marrys you....she can apply outland from what I believe,
there should be no problem....her age is legal in canada to marry,
just have good proof of relation...and communication, and all the goodz

Thanks for the quick response.

But will the immigration ask her about the financial support and all those matters? how can we justify that? She is just studying there with OSAP. Yes, she is willing to come to Bangladesh and marry me.

Please advise

Thanks and regards

She allowed to have OSAP, mainly, you need to show the means by which she will support you,.

she cannot sponsor you if she doesn't have any income or if it's less than around 35,000/year.

hi nb8285,

Then what are the best way for me to stay with her? any suggestion?

Regards

nb8285: that's not correct. There's no income requirement to sponsor a spouse.

There is no specific income requirement to sponsor a spouse but they can still refuse if they believe that you can not support yourselves in Canada. Are you working? If you are, I suppose they will see no reason why you would not get a job when you arrive in Canada.

Hi Leon,

I am working for last 3 years, I have savings of 20,000 CAD (myself) and 50,000 given by my parents. Plus I have bachelors from Malaysia and a MBA from Bangladesh.

The thing is, I am applying for student visa this june, if I get rejected, then I need to have a backup plan to stay with my girl.

I would really appreciate if you guys tell me a work flow that me and my gf should take, that would at least ensure us to be together, if I dont get student visa.

Thanks and regards

The sponsor does not need a job or any income to sponsor a spouse, so she can sponsor you while a student. But the visa officer will want to see how you two will support yourselves, so send in proof of any income or savings she has; proof of your education, job, income and savings; also, you said your parents are willing to sponsor her education, so get an affidavit stating that from them, and some proof of their income or savings.
If you apply for a student visa, are rejected, and then immediately marry a Canadian PR and apply through her, it will look suspicious - like you are trying any way possible to get into Canada. Leave some time between the applications.
Also, document your relationship with this girl very well - have phone proof (don't use cards, even though they are cheaper - get some phone method that provides evidence of the numbers called), Skype, emails, letters, proof of visits; etc. When you get married, document the preparations well, and I suggest you have a big, lavish ceremony with all relatives there.

Thank you Leon and others for the advices, really appreciate it.
I hope I can get in with the student visa in the first place :)

As i know if your gf full time student my refuse, but to sponsor no need any job.
Easy solution is if you get student visa.

The one weird part you said was your parents would be willing to support HER education. Now you may need to be careful with that, make sure it does not look like you are paying her or giving her financial reasons to sponsor you. Most of the time red flags are raised when the sponsor seems to be the dependent one.
