can a dependent child have a work after submitting the application for permanent residence in canada?

here is my dillemma.

we applied way back like 2 years ago.. but our papers were taking a long time. i was a full time student before since i turned 22 yrs old last dec 2013. i decided to find a work here in the philippines last jan 2014. will my papers be affected as i am a dependent child in our application? what do you advise? should i neglect my job?

Who qualifies as a "Dependent Child"?

Children under the age of 22 years, who do not have a spouse or a common law partner at the time that the application is submitted. They must remain unmarried until they arrive in Canada in order to be considered a dependent child. Also, a dependent child may be a child who has been continuously enrolled as a full-time student since before the age of 22 OR a child with a disability that is financially dependent on a parent since before age 22.

here is the thing - last week they already ask for our passport. do you have any idea how long will it take to get our passport back? (manila office - philippines)

i hope someone could help me please :((

How old were you when the application was submitted? If you were under 22 years old, then your status as a dependent based on age alone was locked in at that time. So it doesn't matter if you work now, you will still be a dependent no matter how long the application takes.

The only thing that will change your status is if you get married or become common-law before the visas are issued.
