Hi experts,

Can anybody confirm a child born in Canada to a visiting couple will get Canadian citizenship? None of them is citizen nor permanent resident or employed in Canada. They are just a visitor.

I heard new c24 bill is passed but not yet implemented. Is it true? When this is going to be a law.

According to c24, the child will not be a citizen if none of them is citizen nor permanent resident or employed in Canada.

Regards
Amir

C24 does not change the rules with regard to birth tourism. There has been discussions to amend said rules, but nothing has been proposed by the government as yet. As a result, the child will indeed gain citizenship if he/she is born in Canada.

This basically means the visitor baby poppin party is on. VBPP!! Lets shake it!

Yes child will be a citizen, but that won't help the parents stay in Canada, and child can't sponsor them for PR until he/she is well into their 20s and working consistently in Canada for many years.

Also most visitors aren't covered under health insurance for delivery, so it's possible they could be looking at a huge hospital bill to deliver their baby in Canada.

Sometimes parents dont need the help as much as giving the child citizenship. Many people in this world are really desperate either because of economic reasons, race, discrimination, fear of persecution. Giving the child right of passage to Canadian citizenship is the most they can do in order to not make them part of the suffering parents have endured.

..Correct and also since the world is becoming a global village such Citizenship is a great gift to a child and it enhances employability(especially outside Canada and US) and easy mobility round the world if you check the number of Countries that could be visited without having to apply for Visa with Canadian citizenship.

Yes, a gift that comes at the expense of Canadian taxpayers. Canada needs to follow the lead of all other developed nations and shut down this whole birth tourism racket.

Firstly, somebody has to pay it why not Canadian tax payers cause the baby is born in Canada. Afterall Canada is known for its generousity.
Secondly, unlike other developed nations around the world stopping this practise is not a priority for the Canadian government. Look at the geographic area of Canada thousands of square kilometres without a single soul. Look at some countries, thousands of souls in one square kilometre

I'm not sure what your point is. Because Canadians are generous, we should bear responsibility for the world? Because Canada has vast amounts of land, we should grant citizenship to the world? Are you being serious or just trolling?

I am serious. I dont understand how you dont understand my point. I cannot be more blatant than this. Yes we do bear responsibility of the world, this is what makes us Canadians. Clearly (VBP) visitor baby poppin is not a priority for the government as a whole otherwise they would do something. And besides what is wrong with someone wanting to give their child a better future, for whatever reason they cannot qualify to come to Canada as a PR so they decide to have their baby here in order to give them a better future? Wouldn't you?

Canadians dont complain about other things like high rate of auto insurance, ridiculous real estate price, cost of transportation, cost of inflated commodities and services, overall cost of living, then why complain about visitors coming to give birth in Canada. Canadians can afford to absorb this cost too, otherwise the government would interfere? Dont you think so?

To be honest I think the average Canadians are very wealthy by any standards, and they never complain, when was the last time you saw a riot in Canada? (either because of increasing taxes, cost of living, cost of food, etc ) Cost of everything is increasing and Canadians will obediently pay it as they always have. If they dont like it they can settle in another country, its that simple and a lot of them are doing it.

What will happen if parents unable to stay in Canada and child unable to get visa in parents home country?

Most of these baby poppers come from developing countries, can you name one developing country that does not accept Canadian besides the parents can say its our baby so they baby has to come with us. And for the most part they accept it

May be some gulf countries?
