Good morning,

I'm planning to apply for the PNP program, and I have a question about the work experience time. I worked part-time for over a year and then worked full-time for six months afterward under one employer. The total working hours under that employer is over 1700 hours. It was indicated in my letter of employment, and I also have the total working hours documented based on the paystubs.

Would that count as one year of experience in Canada, given that I worked over 1560 hours at one occupation and under one employer?

Note: this experience was while I was studying in school, so I'm not eligible for CEC. I'm wondering if it counts as one year of experience so I can create a profile under the FSW stream and then apply for the PNP program. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Only the work done or performed during your work permit will be counted as Canadian experience. Any work during your study permit will not help in the PR application.

Hi, thanks for the reply! According to the website https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ntry/eligibility/federal-skilled-workers.html, doesn't this mean that it would still count the working experience as a student? I'm just wondering if the total hours are over 1560, would it be okay to claim as one year of experience?

If you worked in Canada, it can not be counted to give you points for foreign work experience to be eligible for FSW. The MI clearly states that Foreign work experience should be outside Canada. If you have worked part-time, outside Canada (for example in your home country) while studying it can be claimed for FSW.
