I am thinking about ordering the CAIPS notes from our case, but we have a representative (lawyer) who`s helping us with our case. Is it ok if we order it, or should HE order it ?? anyone knows??

Canadianwoman, thanks for your prompt reply. But what I meant was: authorizing another company (in this case, caipsnotes.com) to be my representative, will this DE-AUTHORIZE (if that word actually exists, ehhehe) my Lawyer, before the CIC ??

No; there is a special authorization form exclusively for getting information. This does not affect the status of your authorized representative.

Most companies charge about $29 (USD or Canadian equivalent). I don't think they can get the CAIPS notes any faster than you, if you live near Ottawa, where the records are kept. The time to process yor request is (1) the time to retrieve your CAIPS file, and (2) mailing time.

Obviously, if you live far from Ottawa (and especially if you live abroad), and the company lives near Ottawa, the mailing time to send the CAIPs notes from Ottawa to them, and from them to you by email, will be much shorter than to mail the notes to you.

people say if u r in canada you can get the caips notes free or 5$
the nairobi embassy is processing our case for almost three months now
just want to know how things is going there

I did it myself, but it cost $5 because I'm requesting it on behalf of my wife. My wife just wrote a consent letter stating that I had authorization to have access to her file, which she signed.

Hi JMA, are you the sponsor or the applicant? If the applicant is present in Canada they can either select the Access to Information or the Privacy Act. If the applicant is not present in Canada, the requester who is requesting on behalf of the applicant must select the access to information act. Take a read of this:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563B.pdf. it will help explain things even further. Please read the Note at the bottom page of the 1st page, which explains what to select.

I left it blank because I did not have that information either, and it did not cause any delays.

iam the sponsor and i reside toronto
my spouse is the applicant{husband}
if i select the acess to information act
there's three options to check
1. receive copies of the record
2.receive a CD (PDF format)
3.Exmine copies of the records in goverment office

so which one do i have to check?

in cic it say your either pay by cheque or money order

I am about to order my CAIPS. Can I fax my consent form to my sponsor or does he need to send original signed conset form from me..(Don't want to waste time in mailing)...After my sponsor gets the form from me, he will then mail it to Public Rights Administration, Citizenship and Immigration Canada,Narono Building, 360 Laurier Ave, 10th floor ,Ottawa, Ontoaria K1A 1L1

I dont want to miss anything...I will send the following documents to order my CAIPS..
(1)Access to information and personal information request (IMM 5563 )
(2)Authority to release personal information to a designated individual (IMM 5475)
(3)$5 money order to "Receiver General for Canada"
(4) copy of his canadian passport

Is that all I need???
