Hello,

Good day!

We are planning to bring my mother-in-law for a visit to Toronto. She is a 59 year old Vietnamese. This will be her first time applying a Canadian Visa. We're thinking of buying a travel insurance to strengthen her application. Our questions are:

1. How much coverage we should buy?
2. Which company would you recommend? - Currently, we are looking at SunLife as they offer Direct Billing (no out-of-pocket payment).

Kindly share your experience. Thanks!

Best,
D

I bought both and included them in my application.

For insurance I used this website: http://travelinsure.ca/result-quotes.php

the coverage wasn't too expensive and it is fully refundable if you cancel before the date of the travel and show some proof of the person being unable to take the trip (such as visa denial letter)

FYI the wait time is now 111 days for a visa for Vietnam so if you are planning the trip soon you better allow for enough time. I have no idea why it's so long but the number seems to keep going up. It was 60 days when we started our application so we had enough time. We took 1 week to finish our application and the waiting time went from 60 to 90 to 111 days when we applied. I was pissed.

Yeah my mother in law, who's Vietnamese, first applied for the super visa on Jan 1, it's been over 3 months now, and they only asked for the medical last week. Very slow indeed.

Thank you all! By the way, how much coverage did you buy? We are thinking of 25,000.00. Is it enough? Thanks!

That really depends on you and how much protection you want. It doesn't take much for hospitalization and medical care costs to rise above $25K (an unplanned car accident that requires surgery could easily take you well above that). I would personally go with at least $100K. But obviously your choice.
