i moved permanently to edmonton from US last friday. Today i bought the car. it got financed from Honda Canada. I heard many people complaining about very high car insurance. Luckily i got a very good deal as compared to the amounts people were telling in the threads. I gave them all my driving history from US and also provided them with letter from my insurance companies. They gave me a deal of 102$ per month which i think its decent for a comprehensive insurance and the fact that i never drove in canada.

The insurance company is TD insurance, Meloche Monnex. Try them and get a quote. I got bit more discount since my company is listed in their list but i am sure thats not very lot. So if anyone shopping for car insurance hit them up. if coming from US make sure u have a copy of your driving record and letters from insurance companies showing no lapse of insurance and no evidence of major events or claims.

Congratulations! US driving history is of value in Canada and I guess you have bought a used car- if a new car you've got a too good to be true deal for sure :D.
European or Asian driving experience is of no significance to Canadian insurance companies.

Asian licnece won't have any impact on Canadian insurance or licence thing but certain European countries would have. UK licence can be exchanged for Full canadian licence or you can keep british driving licence and still drive in Canada as normal. I believe keeping that in mind, it'll have a good impact on insurance as well if you have long history of no claims or accidents, i suppose. ::)
