I'm not sure if this' your area or simply an area you want move to?

It is in many ways a quantitative and statistical area, so most employers prefer candidates with a quantitative background. Depending on the specific requirements of the position, a business background will suffice. Keeping in mind, BI and analytics are data-based areas, it is a key requirement that a candidate possess the skills to extract and analyze data. So, knowledge of databases, analysis and visualization technologies like SQL, Tableau, Excel etc is a requirement.

It's always dependent on the requirements of the role - some require a high level of technical proficiency others require a moderate level. Also, if the role is managerial, then technical proficiency MAY not be a major requirement - knowledge/experience of analytics/IS strategy etc. counts.

The companies to apply to are not unique. Today, most companies (large corporations especially) are engaging in data-driven decision making, so BI and analytics have become integral to there operations.

I advise you look at job boards and review related job postings. Look at the requirements.

Finally, and very important too; this' a wide area, so what role you perform is dependent on your interests and related skill set. You may be a programmer, modeller, a BA etc - each role has its unique requirements. You'll have to do a lot of research to determine what role your qualified to do.

All the best.
