Hi,

My younger brother is an applicant of Berlin office.Recently he got married and have received request for medicals today .As he wants to add his wife in his application so busy in gathering docs for his wife. Now wht shd he do shd he wait for the docs of his wife and ask for an extension in medical tests or he shd go for his medicals and just inform CIC about change in his marital status and send them his wife's docs as soon as he gather them.

PLz advice

Thanks

He should inform the visa office immediately that he got married and ask for an extension to do the medicals. Medicals are only valid for 1 year (as will be his visa), and it can take a couple of months to add a spouse to the application. Once he informs the visa office that he is married, they should grant an extension and he will be able to take the medicals along with his spouse when her forms arrive.

Your brother must inform the visa office of his wedding as changes in family composition impact his application. His wife will be considered a co-applicant now. If I were in his situation, I would e-mail the embassy via the Case Specific Enquiry link at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/berlin.asp and ask them whether they want him to wait to do medicals until his wife's forms are ready or whether he should go ahead and ask the DMP (Designated Medical Practitioner) for an extra form for her. In parallel, he can start collecting the documents on the visa office checklist required for his spouse (e.g., marriage certificate).

The good news is that the officers have confirmed he meets the 67 points already (since they send him medical request) so it should be relatively simple to add his new wife - they will seek to confirm that this is a genuine marriage and do a background check on his new wife but it doesn't mean going back to the very beginning.
