Hi guys, I'm looking to visit my partner in Canada in the very close future and got a situation I can't find a solid answer to.

I ideally would like to fly over with a one way ticket, I'm looking to stay with my partner for a month give or take, but I'm seeing mixed answers about this. Financially it would be easier for me to get a one way ticket there and but my return whilst visiting. I will be receiving payment to my account whilst I will be in Canada, this is consistent payment of twice a month, with another being once a month. If I bring proof of this money going into my account will I be able to get the one way ticket option?

I will also be staying with my partner at her place for the duration of my stay, so I wouldn't need as much cash to take with me.

Please advice!

Anyone can buy a one way ticket online but whether an airline will allow you as a visitor to check in or board is another matter. Airline reservation systems are not sophisticated enough to filter out whether someone should be buying a return or onward travel, that they leave to the passenger to own and take their chances at check in and arrival. For the latter they are often reluctant to allow one way given the remote chance someone is refused entry the airline can get lumbered with the return costs.

Also when you arrive having a one way ticket as a visitor is not necessarily a good idea with CBSA without evidence of a return or onward travel out the country .It may not come up at all in the conversation but if does what will be your story, of course do not volunteer the fact.

Payments into any account are irrelevant to CBSA as that is no indication at all that you will leave when you are supposed to. In fact arriving on a one way ticket if CBSA become aware you may find you get a restricted stay of a week or two to ensure you actually will leave.

Ultimately your decision as nobody here can really predict what may or may not work even if someone has travelled on a one way successfully as a visitor doesn’t imply will always work

General advice with CBSA only answer questions asked do not volunteer information and avoid vague answers.

There's no black and white answer. It's possible you may run into issues boarding the airplane and the airline may make you purchase a return ticket on the spot in order to board (which will certainly end up being quite a bit more expensive than buying a return). Ultimately impossible to say. If you want to play it safe, purchase a return.
