Hi

I just received my COPR from CIC department a couple of days ago after 3 years :) to my Canadian address. I am British Citizen and currently living in Canada on a visitors visa. My COPR needs to be signed by a Immigration Officer. I was advised that I should be able to travel to US and then re-enter Canada once again.
Does anyone if i would be able to re enter Canada immediately or does this process take a few days?

Thanks ;)

yes, it's an immediate thing. it's called "flag poling". search the threads about how to do it. basically, you drive to the states, tell them you are flag poling, they will issue you some sort of paperwork, and you go back to canada.

Hi RHCohen

The only issue is i have overstayed in Canada more than my 90 days periods. Will this effect me in anyway? My husband and my baby are Canadian citizen and my sponsor application was inland application?

Thanks

If you applied inland, i don't understand why you would need to leave to land back in CAnada. I would think you can go to a local visa office to land? where are you getting the information about going to the states?

I actually called them to find out how to go about this. They advice that CIC waiting time for an appointment is 2 months however if i travelled to the states and came back (the same day) i'd get my counterfoil signed immediately but im skeptical with rgards if they'd question me with regards of my overstay.

:(

yeah, i'd wait to see what senior members say about this. also, it would be good to know if you have some sort of implied status. did you apply for an OWP as part of your application? What sort of visa were you in canada on? one would *think* the COPR would trump any issues, then again, CIC/CBSA doesn't always seem to follow what regular folk consider logic.

No i didnt apply for Work Permit as i was here on a visiting visa. As a British Citizen i didnt require visa to enter Canada.. I was under the impression that the CIC/CBSA was aware i was staying in Canada as they were mailing me here and my medical report was from Canada too.

Documents needed when flag polling

Sir, Madam,

Thank you for contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I am pleased to follow up on your request:

Validating a Confirmation of permanent residence at a land border

Once you get your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688) from a Canadian visa office and, if necessary, your permanent resident visa in your passport, you must have these documents validated by an immigration officer at a port of entry.

You must:

Stop at the U.S. border;
Inform the officer that you need to return to Canada immediately in order to validate your Confirmation of Permanent Residence;
Enter the U.S.;
Return to Canada;
Inform the officer you need to validate your Confirmation of Permanent Residence;
Show the following documents:
your passport, travel or identity document (including secure visa counterfoil (IMM 1346), if applicable); and
your Confirmation of Permanent Residence and instructions issued by the Canadian visa office;
(if applicable) any immigration document in your possession (whether valid or not); and
(if applicable) proof of implied status, such as:
payment receipt;
printout of online application;
copy of your application to extend your stay;
proof of mailing.
To find the land border closest to you which offers immigration services, please visit the Canada Border Service Agency website. Please note that you can expect to encounter delays at the land border.

So you applied outland ???? How long have you been waiting for your P.R .. this will give us an idea if you applied outland since you don't remember.

Hi Taffy

I applied in July 2012 and received my PR April 2014

Does this help?

You had to have applied inland. Wow you have waited some time to get your P.R. If you applied inland your P.R. papers came to you through the mail . I have never heard of an inland application having to flagpole . If you did apply inland then you were on implied status so no worries.

Your only option is to "flagpole" If you are out of status, you CANT make an appointment and "land" at an inland office.
