Hello,

I became permanent resident of Canada in Dec 2011 and got married Jan 2012 to a Nepali Citizen. I now want to bring him here on any visa possible. What are the other visas available for me to bring him here temporarily other than the sponsorship option.

Some background info: I have studied and worked in Canada for past 8 years and have clean records. I am myself an Indian Citizen.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Kindly,
Lost Gal

1. The chances of a TRV (visitor visa) are close to nil with a PR resident spouse. You are just going to have to sponsor him. The forms are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

Temporary visas would include visit visa, study visa or work visa but being married to a PR, it is possible that they will deny him based on being a risk to overstay. Your best option is really sponsorship.

Congratulations Lost Gal!!! I am also originally from Nepal, went to school and work here, married to a Nepali girl and am waiting for her PR to come through. it's best to sponsor your spouse while he's out of the country even through it's a few months wait (3-6 months). Even if you were able to get TRV he wouldn't be able to work or go to school until he gets his PR which takes almost 2 years when applying from within Canada. The best bet for you is to sponsor him as outbound applicant, wait for 2 months for the sponsorship to be approved and another month or two to get the PR visa. I know it's not easy to be separated for that many months but it's the easiest option available to you.

All the best.

Thank you all for your replies. It really helped.

Does it affect my application if I am currently unemployed? How much income should be shown for sponsorship to successfully take place.

Thankyou again,

There's no exact requirement. You will just have to show that you have enough to sustain you and your spouse once they are with you. :)
