hi, so i started my 1st year program in September 2023 (1 year pgwp certificate) and about to complete in few days. I want to take a break so that i can collect my fees for my 2nd year program, so my break is not official (not from college).

This is how i am doing:

1st Program - Sept 2023 to April 2024 (Ontario)
4 Month Break - May 2024to August 2024 (Ontario)
2nd Program - Sept 2024 to April 2025 (Alberta)
Work Permit - After April 2025

As the rules are keep on changing, my question are:

1. Will i get 3 year pgwp after completing my 2nd year program (its public and DLI from another province).
2. Will i be able to work full-time from May to August (4 month break) and start my next program in Sept 2025

Suggest any other things if you think are good. Thank you

1. Don’t know. When government announced changes to PGWP/study permits in January, it mentioned changes to length of PGWPs. PGWP site states -
You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed must be
  • PGWP eligible and
  • at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in lengtH

2. You should be able to. Does your study permit expire?
