Are there any members on this forum who have applied for a BOWP after receiving AOR through CEC and have obtained it successfully since it was launched? Can you folks please enlighten us as some members recently shared their stories of rejection going with the assumption that the AOR qualifies as pass for BOWP.

I would love to hear this also.

I got mine, it was... well as they explained in the bulletin. Processing times match pretty much what is on CIC website too.

I tend to see more reports of people being afraid of being rejected due to AOR not being sufficient than reports of actually being rejected after their application was submitted.

Thanks for sharing. So you were approved for an open work permit? Can you please give more details about your case?

What year/month was your CEC application filled?
Did you apply with just an AOR? How long before applying to the BOWP did you recieve your AOR?
What was your status in Canada BEFORE you applied for the open work permit?

Would really appreciate your input on this.

Cheers!

Chia, you're making it far too complicated for yourself. I got AOR in December and went from PGWP to OWP but none and I insist none of these dates or conditions matter from OWP point of view.

As long as

1- you are in Canada
2- on a valid work permit expiring within the next four months and
3- have an AOR

you are good to go. The rest is completely immaterial to the decision making process at CIC. If you haven't already, file your application, include a copy of AOR and current WP if you like and then wait for the new work permit to arrive.

how long was the processing time ????

46 days iirc. But that's just an anecdote at a particular time for a particular applicant. What you should really care about is here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp

And they are fairly accurate and updated very regularly.

I dont believe I am making anything complicated for myself. All I wanted was a more detailed answer, as others have been declined on the basis that the AOR was not enough.

Thanks for your response eitherway.

If that was the case, CIC made an error and the applicant should appeal.

Has anyone's application actually been declined though? Unless I missed it, all I saw here was a single person who called the call centre and were told AOR is not enough (iirc). This is a new process so all call centre agents are probably not yet trained. I have not however seen or heard reports of applications being actually denied on that basis.

And jes_ON correctly pointed out even if that happens (no evidence it has) then it was a mistake to be appealed.

thisisauser: there are two members on this forum who have indicated that they were declined for a BOWP, and then there was the member you mention who was alarmed by the call centre's response. Either way, the intent of this thread isn't to question the validity of these applications, but simply to have members who have successfully received their BOWP post AOR to let us know their timeline.

I think what thisisauser meant in his/her messages is that people tend to believe what most of the others said without carefully consideering the actual possible variables in different cases...AOR might not be the major reason in those rejections...

e.g. in Alex677 case the applicant thought his BOWP is rejected becasue of the AOR but in fact, he is undergoing some other processes related to positive LMO and a seperated OWP app...

I am planning to submit an app for the BOWP next month as my PGWP expires in May 2013...after getting all these opinions in this forum I will rather just print out the OB page stating AOR = sufficience and put it on top of my package so that the VO wont be forgetting there are new policies...

People, on may 2012 threat, Kosmoj just posted his successful experience on getting his BOWP. You guys could take a look.

Thank you Karioca. ;)

I got a Bridging Open Work Permit a month ago.

My timelines are here.

Application of PR
May 22, 2012 Application received (under CEC)
Sep 20, 2012 AOR received
Jan 23, 2013 Medical requested
Jan 31, 2013 Medical done

My previous work permit was scheduled to be expired on 1 March 2013.

Application of BOWP
Dec 25, 2012 Applied BOWP on-line
Feb 14, 2013 Requested the offer of employment
Feb 15, 2013 Uploaded explanation letter (Why I don't need to provide the offer of employment)
Feb 28, 2013 No response from CIC office even though the normal processing time was passed
Feb 28, 2013 Made a phone call to CIC call centre
Agent told me my work permit was issued on Feb 25, 2013 and will be delivered
Feb 28, 2013 Found it was delivered (Issued: Feb 25, 2013, Valid until: Feb 25, 2014)

In my case, it was sufficient to apply BOWP with AOR received.

Wow any reason why your aor took 4 months? That's pretty long
