For me, there are two schools of thought in play:

- You are applying for a BOWP based on a new/different application, and hence, it's as if you are starting from scratch (this is my generous perspective). It's understandable that you need a BOWP since the new application will take time

- You fall under the following excerpt from the OB-485A:
"Subsequent requests from applicants to extend their stay on an open WP will be considered on a case-by-case basis"
Yep, I understand this. But I wonder what is my chance to get an extension if my application is "considered on a case-by-case basis". What exactly they consider? Is there anything which would make my case stronger?

Hard to tell...depends on the type of VO (some are strict, some are compassionate).

GHD is right, just make a letter stating the reason for the extension, and that is because you have to re-apply your PR. It's not as if you gamed the system or was denied PR due to admissibility.

Thanks Guys,

I think I'm going to submit explanation letter that stays that I'm meeting all the requirements listed in OP-485A and therefore eligible for BOWP. I'm not sure if trying to explain why my first application has been refused would do any good.

What do you think?

I've thought about that approach, just make a simple letter on why you are applying based on OP485A; less talk, less mistakes.

However, is it necessary to upload a copy of your recent OWP? If so, does it contain info as shown in the Issuance section: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob485A.asp

Because this will tip-off the Officer that you were issued an OWP based on the PR Application (although it will be in the system anyway).

I think there's a really good chance since it's a new (and recent) AOR and not based on the old one.

It's not necessary to upload current wp, but imm5710 form asks for number of current "status document". Also it asks if I ever been refused any kind of visa to Canada and I'm going to say "yes" and mention my previous PR application refusal. Anyway they have access to all of my immigration information and I don't want them thinking that I'm trying to hide something.
Anyway, really appreciate your help. I'm little bit stressed out and few encouraging words is exactly what I need right now.

Applied today. Not sure how I'm going to survive the "waiting game" for the next 11-15 days...

Hi guys,
I am confused when I read about BOWP. Generally for how long a BOWP is issued?

BOWP is usually valid for not less than 1 year, but some applicants also got it for longer time (18months, 2years).

Most common is one year. I got it for duration of validity of my passport (just short of two years) with a note on it that said passport needs to be renewed to extend BOWP.

My application was very early on in the program.

For the benefit of others who might be considering applying for a second BOWP, can you please tell us exactly what documents you submitted when you applied for your second BOWP? If you included a cover letter, can you briefly tell us what you wrote in your cover letter?

Thanks! :)
