BOWP approved - but no email!

Hi guys,

I sent my application for the BOWP on Jan 12th and received a message that the status has been updated 2 days ago. In 'myCIC' unter 'A final decision has been made' it says 'This application has been approved' but I didn't receive an email or message under myCIC with the paperwork for the work permit.

Could anyone who received the BOWP please explain how the process should be?

Once it shows approved on MyCIC, You will receive with Hardcopy within couple of days.

Folks,

I had applied for BOWP on 19th Jan, so going by tr001's initial note, i may have approval by 31st Jan, but i am leaving country on same day....so is it ok to not receive the hard copy (might be returned back to CIC??) or will that cause any problems?

The new work permit will be posted to your address. You don't want them to do this?

If your current permit is still active when you return, then there is no problem.

In any case, the new permit will be at your house when you return. Have a look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=190&t=17 especially this part:

You may be allowed to come back to Canada as a worker, if the officer at the port of entry finds out that CIC extended your work permit while you were away.

So if you don't have the new permit in your possession, they can still check in their system that it was issued to you - there have been reports on here where people were issued their BOWP while out of the country, and there were no issues getting back in. Of course if your BOWP is not issued while you're away, and your old permit expired, you'll have to return as a visitor.

(I believe the use of may instead of will in the quote above, simply reflects that border officials always have discretion in these matters)

I am travelling out of country as my present employer is sending me back and my closed work permit is expiring on 31st Jan.

I will be vacating from my appartment on 31st Jan and not returning to same address. Also I haven't planned my return yet, will be approaching my Canada contacts from my home country and once something is finalized will be travelling again, could take few months.

So still wonder what will happen if CIC gets the BOWP back and knows that I have left the country.

Ah. Yes, being in Canada is one of the BOWP conditions. So, don't let the work permit be 'returned to sender'.

I would arrange mail forwarding with Canada Post as soon as you can, so that the permit is not simply returned to CIC. Forward it either to your new residential address, or to someone in Canada that you trust with it.

- applied Jan 12th
- myCIC changed to 'approved' on Jan 25th
- received the new work permit via mail on Feb 4th (but I live in the middle of nowhere and it took longer then usual)

Hope this info helps for some of you out there who apply for the BOWP!

It seems that the permits are slow to arrive in the mail, even if you live next door to their office in Vegreville.

My guess is that they approve permits continually, but print and send them in batches every few days.

Hi, Did you receive an email from MYCIC? I'm currently on the same situation. I have not received an email yet from MYCIC, but when I checked MYCICC account yesterday under check status and messsage, it says "Application Status Closed, Review of submitted documents No additional documents are needed at this time, A final decision has been reached This application has been approved" Does this mean my new work permit has been approved?

I will appreciate if someone can answer this. TIA
