Hi everyone,

I have been searching through the different topics here but wasn't able to find more posts on BOWP applications before receiving the AOR.

It is very likely that I won't receive my AOR before my current work permit expires, so I am considering sending out my BOWP application with a cover letter explaining that I am not able to wait longer and expect to receive my AOR shortly (as "recommended" by forum member "aand").

The CIC call center agent I talked to today confirmed that I would receive implied status, however; he said that there is a chance that my BOWP will get refused as an integral part of the application criteria is missing (AOR).

I was hoping that more of you people have gone this route, like aand, and could share your experience. Has anyone received the BOWP even though the AOR wasn't attached in the application? What did you write in your cover letter? Would you recommend others to give it a shot?

As my current work permit will expire on May 24, I am just trying to buy myself more time and continue my work with the implied status. I can't even imagine having to leave the country in 24 days :(

I read in this forum that you can send your application w/o AOR explaining that you will send AOR as soon as you receive, so till then to hold the decision on your BOWP application.

But use this as the last resort.

Hello LCM,
You will be on an implied status once your wp expires and until the decision on your PR has been made. So there is nothing to worry, but I would suggest that you apply for your BOWP only when you have received your AOR.

That's what I read too, was just wondering if anyone had actually tried this and successfully obtained a BOWP in the end. It is for sure my last resort - I just don't know what else I can do as my current permit is expiring in 3 weeks and I only managed last week to send in my application (due to a whole bunch of issues out of my control - UGH!). Thanks for your reply :)

Cruiser55 I do not think this is correct. You can only get implied status if you put in an application for a Work/Study Permit, not PR. If your current WP expires, and you have applied for PR, you need to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit.

Hi Cruiser55,

Are you saying I'd be on implied status for almost a year? I thought the implied status would last until they'd make a decision on my BOWP application (which would take about 2/3 months?).

Believe me, I wish I can send in my AOR with the BOWP application, but will likely not have enough time. Going crazy from all the nerves! ???

Hi LCM,
I suggest that you apply for your BOWP anyways, explaining to them in a letter that you are awaiting your AOR and that you have already sent off your PR application and that you are on a rush for time as your WP is expiring.
You must send this out now and I am sure you will be awarded a BOWP - don't get tensed, just do the right thing.

That's correct, you are NOT on implied status because your PR application is in process but Only when your WP/BOWP/PGWP application is in process.

There has been some misunderstanding here, I meant implied status through BOWP.

But, LCMs case is rare and needs urgent attention and my previous message above this explains whats to be done.

I would suggest for u to apply for visitors visa and maintain legal status and once u receive AOR, u can then apply for BOWP. All the best

Thanks Cruiser! So you think it would be better to send it asap rather than trying to get the AOR processed urgently and then send in the BOWP application? The CIC agent recommended that I send an email with "URGENT" in the subject line to the CIO office in Sydney NS and request them to process my AOR fast. Of course I received an automatic confirmation email back stating that they'll ignore such requests, but since the CIC agent suggested it I am hoping for the best.

yea, but it is better than staying illegal and ask to leave Canada. He won't wait too long and he will receive AOR and apply
