BOWP and travel to US

Hi Guys,

I have been asked to go to Chicago on business for 5 days in October. I currently have a open work permit and will likely have my PR status by then also.

Is there anything I will need to apply for?

It depends. Do you have a visa exempt or non visa exempt passport?

I am from the UK so visa exempt if I understand correctly.

In that case there's nothing you need to re-enter Canada. Depending on your activities in the US, it's possible you may need some sort of visa there. This question would be better answered on a US immigration forum.
