I am sponsoring my husband but we got married in Mexico, our marriage certificate is in spanish. I am aware I have to get a certified copy, but am I also supposed to get it translated???

From CIC: "If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals"

Note that each region has different requirements. Check for your region and make sure a copy is ok and you don't need to send an original.
