I got H1b in the US but the Green Card wait is just insane :o

So I decided it would be great if I can immigrate Canada w/ my common law spouse to Quebec
We hired a consultant and he said we are borderline and it all depends on our french lvl

Frankly, we know nothing besides Bonjour... but we'll try w/ RosettaStone

I am a financial Advisor w/ 2 yrs exp, no french, 24 yrs old, BA finance
My spouse is on F-1, will grad w/ Nursing Bachelor on the coming December
her experience is the co-op which we are not sure if it counts. 25 yrs old common law partner.

Consultant said I will be the PA and will be better off waiting for my spouse to Grad and get more points. I wonder what else we can do besides getting points in French? And will 6 months be enough to earn enough points for us? He mentioned something like 3 points for me and 3 points for her and we don't quite understand how it works.

Thank you and greatly appreciated yall's help!

It's so awesome to find this forum!! ;D

hi zozozo,

This link is a good place to readup and be aware of the points breakup.
http://www.canadavisa.com/quebec-skilled-worker-immigration.html

And you should also get yourself evaluated on the site.. most people turn up as eligible even with 0 french. but the above link will give you a detailed idea of where you stand.

Quebec being a francophone province, it will do you good to learn french from a points & settlement angle. Check where the nearest alliance française is and give it a shot. its fun ! the points that you get for clearing each level of DELF are given below.
A1 - 2 PCT / A2 - 6 PCT / B1 - 8 PCT / B2 - 12 PCT / C - 16 PCT

You can easily clear A1 with a month or two of french classes @ Alliance.

your partner's profession will be on the priority list. but i guess she hasnt graduated yet. and no experience :(

Going by the rush of applicants for the Quebec stream, its a good 1.5-2 year wait for the visas. :(

Bonne chance ! 8)

Thanks for your detailed advise! I thought the wait would be shorter...
Anyway, we'll try to polish our French but is it the TEFaq that determines our points or the interview that determines it?

Thanks!!

They actually prefer the Tefaq, but incase its not available, then TEF the others will do. The scores of these french proficiency tests will determine your points. During the interview some 'adaptability points' are awarded (Max 6) They will also vet your french score during the interview.

Wouldnt my spouse be a better PA than me?
The consultant said I am a better PA but i don't understand it

He wouldn't explain it to me...My spouse (RN) had 9 months RN experience under her OPT last year, so that should count and we are good to go isn't it?

hey there

if your spouse has 9 months of exp as an RN, then she should be a better PA. nurses are on the priority list.
