Booking flight to Canada through US transit. Any problem?

Hi friends,
My passport is in transit and status at linked paper application on MYCIC account is "This application has been approved." With this information, I am trying to book a flight to Edmonton from Kathmandu, Nepal. There is a cheap flight through Atlanta with 11- hour transit but a guy from Travel agency warned me to not go through US. Is there any problem with route to Canada through US for foreign students? Also, I am not clear about transit visa, where and why it is required? Please help.

Yes!

You can't transit via US without a transit visa.

Go for a flight via a European country

To transit through the US all travellers require a US visa as you would need to pass through US immigration before making any connection to Canada
