Hi
Im having trouble finding this,

-does the copy of my birth certificate I submit need to be signed off by a notary with the original present?
-does the birth certificate need to be dated recently because the original I currently have is from 1999??

thanks

Is your birth certificate in English / French? If yes, notarization is not required. If not, notary may only sign it when originals are present.

Birth certificates need not be current dated. You can use the one from 1999.

All the best !

Ok so what I have at the moment is a photocopy of my original birth certificate in English. I do not have the original here with me.
just to be sure, are you telling me that that's all I need and that a JP can certify this copy? without the original being present?

thanks for your help

If the birth certificate is in English, you dont need to get a notary sign. Just send the photocopy without any certification or notarization.

One simple rule: Refer to the CEC Checklist www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5610E.PDF and guide www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp .

CIC asks for certified copies only if the original document is not in English / French.
