Birth Certificate Name Different from Passport Name

My Spouse whom I will be sponsoring very soon, has a different name on her Birth Certificate from name on present Passport of 2009. Basically in 2002 her First Name was changed.

When Immigration Officers view her file and see that her First name at birth is not the same as her present name i.e. on PASSPORT, will this raise red flags and delay her case?

There was no court order to back the name change, all she did was a Public Announcement in the news paper prior to getting a new passport.


your thoughts pls on how to deal with this problem.

Does she have a copy of the announcement that was put in the newspaper? Is there some sort of documentation from the country in question that this is the legal process for name changes?

Is it the law in that country that in order to change your name, all you have to do is do a public announcement? If the answer is yes, then I would send the annoucement and also indicate that is all what is required by law in that country (the embassy will know the local law anyways).

If he didn't follow the law to change name, I'm not sure how seriously the embassy will regard the difference.

Name change in Canada is a lengthy and legal process, so any name change is looked up very carefully.

Basically when she went to get her new passport in PAKISTAN, and asked for her new name to be printed on it, the passport office said that you have to post an ad in the Paper and announce your name change.

Wife done that, and yes has the clipping which we will translate.

I have instructed my wife to get an affidavit notarized by the commissioner clerk regarding her name change that happened in the Past.

I did hear that a court order would be best, unfortunatley she did not go through that process back in 2002.



Did anyone from Pakistan face such a similar problem?
