Biometrics - next steps

Hi-

I'm applying for a TRV for my wife through the online application process. I paid the biometric fee in advance. Am I correct in assuming that my wife will need to go to a place where they collect biometrics and submit them before they give any indication as to whether her application may be approved?

I ask as she is far from the capital where I believe this would need to take place and getting there would mean an added expense/time. I assume there is no way around this, but just wanted to raise it here in case I'm missing something.

How long would you have to wait for any update after biometrics have been submitted?
