Hi there. I sent my husbands sponsorship about a month ago. We are currently waiting for the biometrics letter to come in to our account/my email. I’ve heard that the biometric letter can take a while to come. My husband is currently in Germany but will come visit me in Canada during the summer. I’m worried if he gets the biometrics confirmation while he’s visiting me in Canada. My question is, is it possible/allowed for him to do his biometrics at a Canadian biometrics office? Or does he HAVE to had it done at a German office? Thanks a lot.

There is nowhere in Canada to do biometrics right now. He would have to go to the US (or elsewhere)

He cannot do biometrics in Canada, the closest place would be the US but remember that it is risky to go to US just to do biometrics. I would assume they would ask questions unless you already live at a border city (ex: Windsor-Detroit) and the PA is visa exempt. You can look at the tracker/spreadsheet to see approximately how long it takes after you send your app to get biometrics request

Why is it risky to go to the us for biometrics? If we’re honest about why we are there would there be any problems? & how can I track the biometrics letter? Do you have a link?

Because you run the risk of being denied entry.

Alright I’m kind of confused here. I went onto the cic page that allows you to search for the closest vac/biometrics office and it gave me a long list of places in Canada. Not sure if I did it right or if that was the right information but here is the link I used for that

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/where-to-give-biometrics.asp

Kind of worried and lost now because I’m trying to figure out the next best and closest place to get those biometrics done if he is in Canada during that time. Extra stress

All of the Canada locations are POEs, Ports of Entry. He can't go to a POE for biometrics.

As he is German, he should have no issues going to the US to do the biometrics.

Posted in another thread when biometrics came to light. A bunch of IEC applicants were being denied entry at the US border when saying they were coming in to get biometrics done. Officers were denying them entry based on the sole purpose of them coming to the states for biometrics alone. Has nothing to do with being visa exempt or not. This came from the IEC Facebook forum. Many applicants thought it would be easy to cross over for this but it wasn't (particularly when they stated they were going for biometrics)

Perhaps there were other issues going on with those people. I haven't seen any forum posts about anyone being refused entry from the US to do biometrics. On the contrary, I've seen numerous threads of people who have had zero issues doing it.

guess its just luck then. & since he is German and I am Canadian, would they give me trouble for accompanying him on that journey? would they stop me and let him through ?

You should be fine to enter.

The situation varies depending on each individual person, technically yes he is allowed to enter USA by land with his valid eTa, and you should be fine as you are Canadian. If you live in a border city you can think about telling the officer you are crossing for a shopping trip (go to the mall, get a few things and stop by the biometrics centre when you’re done). There’s generally a low risk but there is always a risk and if he was denied re entry, your application would become abandoned. Is there any way you can wait until after biometrics for him to visit?

They applied outland, so being denied entry would have zero effect on the PR app.
