It doesn't matter when you became a PR. What matters is when you submit your citizenship application. So yes - the new laws will apply to you since you will be submitting your citizenship application after the law comes into effect.zig_zag said:Hey folks,
I became a Permanent Resident in April 2014. With this new Bill C-24 that is a law now, will I be affected? Or the old Law still applies to me?

Who is already a Canadian? The OP just landed April past. By the time the OP qualifies under the old rule, the new rule would have already be in effect as of next year. The OP will have to abide by the new citizenship qualifications 4 years out of 6 years.Goldline said:He's already a Canadian before even they passed the law which has not even come into force yet.

Most likely, yes.zig_zag said:Hey folks,

Has Bill C-24 been passed and approved into law? If yes, is it effective immediately or that date is separate. Honestly I find it to be very unfair to us. I am hoping and it does not become a law.NSBoy902 said:Most likely, yes.
Ppl stay the new law will be enforced within a year but no "clear" date when it comes to when.
So you need to stay in the country at least 4 years based on the new law and your previous life before getting PR, if you lived in Canada is vanished.... Welcome to club bud.
You think it's unfairbafakih said:Has Bill C-24 been passed and approved into law? If yes, is it effective immediately or that date is separate. Honestly I find it to be very unfair to us. I am hoping and it does not become a law.
I do think its unfair. I have been in Canada for 3 years already and with the new law none of my previous time matters. Oh well.ilovemma said:You think it's unfair. I have seen few posts here and there over here, that it will be implemented in July 2015. Not sure how true that is.
Yes, C-24 is law. Some of the provisions are already in effect and some will come into effect later at a date to be formally announced. The best guess is June/July 2015.bafakih said:Has Bill C-24 been passed and approved into law? If yes, is it effective immediately or that date is separate. Your date of becoming a permanent resident is irrelevant. What matters is which rules are in place at the time you are ready to apply for citizenship.zig_zag said:Hey folks,
