Hello Everyone,

I've got a friend who has been working in Canada for 4 years now, with 2 different companies. Always with valid work permits. Between the 2 jobs he spent 3 months out of the country.

What is the best way for him to apply for Permanent Resident Status? He is currently investigating the provincial nominee program, but I am wondering if there is a less complicated way for him to apply based on the number of years he's already been working in Canada.

Can anyone provide some guidance please?

Thanks!

Hard to say without more information. If the jobs were NOC skill level A, B or 0 - then he could look at Express Entry or Canadian Experience Class.

Both were NOC class A, 2133.

Are these his only option though? Isn't there a way to apply for PR status just because you've been in the country legally for the last 3 years?

No - there's no such option.

His options are Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and the Provincial Nominee programs.
