Hello,
i have been working in Toronto since 06-June-2009 on a work permit.

I am planning to apply for Canadian permanent residence, i need some guidance in knowing best time for filing my PR.

My work permit will expire on 06-June-2010, i have already applied for its renewal(may-2010).
I read about the clause where in, i should be living in canada for atleast 1year and on a valid work permit to apply for immigration under federal worker class category .

I have heard from sources that work permit renewal can take 3-4months. That being the case i have 2 options.

1> Post my application 2-3 weeks before my work permit expires.
2> Post my application after i get a renewed work permit(approx 3 months from now).

Please help me in deciding the best time to post my application.

Thanks in advance

Generally, the sooner, the better.
But make sure you can still apply for a work permit renewal if you have an ongoing PR application.

if you send your application 2-3weeks before the work permit expiry date, you wont be competing your 1yr period to apply under FSW3 category.

you can apply for PR once you complete your one yr of stay no matter what the status of your work permit renewal.
your application initial assessment by CIO, NS will take 2 to 3months time. so arashtdii said sooner is better.

go ahead and all the best

Thanks a lot for your prompt response,

I have been hearing about some new immigration laws being introduced from May-15th-2010.
If that is true, is there something that i should know being a new applicant.
