i just heard back from the embassy, this is what they sent me

Please be advised that as part of the processing of a permanent resident visa to Canada, some statutory verifications are to be conducted on the application. Kindly note that we are currently waiting for the results of background checks. Unfortunately, we do not have control over the timeline for this stage. You will be contacted if our office requires additional information, or once we receive the results.
