I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to work in Canada sooner than the 12 month wait time the site says now.
We haven't applied yet but here's the situation. I'm American in America currently. I don't qualify for express entry on my own, so no work permit that way. I don't see a way to file inland and get an open work permit since I can't live in Canada right now, only visit.
Please tell me I'm missing something? Just no amount of searching seems to be fruitful.
Thank you

You can live in Canada and apply inland with OWP but assume you can't for personal reasons. Otherwise you have to wait. US applicants are often processed faster than 12 months.

So having a passport would be like having a visiting visa per the cic site? Would just need to apply while I was there and it would be considered inland?
Is not ideal to not work, but is only supposed to be around a month processing for work visa.

Getting an OWP while applying inland takes 2-4 months. You don't need a visa to enter Canada but you will be granted permission to stay up to 6 months at the border. If you apply inland with owp before the 6 months you will be granted implied status and won't have to extend your visitor permit.

Reading through a few other threads, once you apply you are allowed to stay until a decision is made? Also, do you know if there is a time limit put on the OWP? Is it possible it will need to be extended or is it valid for the time of processing the application also?
Thanks again for all the help so far.

Yes you can stay until you get a decision. OWP is good until decision. You are supposed to remain in Canada during the inland processing period. Short vacations seem to be tolerated.
