Looks like family sponsorship entails sharing very private and possibly intimate details of a relationship? :-[ The officers must be having a fit reading all of it. Gosh!

A year?! That's ridiculous. I applied for my daughter's in 2011 and we got it fast even though they had to request more paperwork.

What additional paperwork, please ? I might want to include it at the beginning.

Thanks

We just submitted what was required...no problem. The officer at the consulate told us that if there is a problem they will call us within a week (i.e. missing documents)...no call...just need to wait.

LOL you know what, there was an email i sent in where my husband mentioned he misses a certain part of my body and I was gonna black it out, but then my husband was like no leave it, I highly doubt fake married ppl say they miss their wife's________ LOL...worked for us! Who cares I think the more personal and private it is shows them how we are just real ppl living real lives and marriages, just separated for a time.

LOL and you know, the joke is it's not the body part you are thinking of...which made it even funnier...sorry wasnt meant to dirty..but I'm not that prudish either!! My husband is actually much more private than me, but this happens to be a body part that I think was part of his physical attraction to me in the first place and we always joke about it. So I guess the inside joke between the 2 of us made for great reading by the IO..who cares, my hubby got his visa in 4 months, no interview no delays. If it works it works!!

Well, I could, but things need explanation. I am an English teacher so I like to put detail into my work! Loool.. so hey, I will give them our full on story and hope they read it all and try to understand our situation.

Also my father will be writing a letter about meeting him and his thoughts and feelings about him and our situation and the experiences we went through together... is this a good thing?

If you need that much detail, why not give an executive summary in bullet form (to keep the details to a minimum), and let the CIC officer reviewing your application decide where he/she wants to delve in the detailed version?

The problem with too much detail is that the "documents" officer might give up, stop reading, and say that you need to come to an interview, thus passing the responsibility of making a determination to a different officer (the interview officer is not necessarily the same officer who reviewed the application).

So, make it easy to understand your "story" without having to read a thesis. If a thesis is necessary, give them the full version too, for their delectation and entertainment.

But you -- being an English teacher -- will appreciate Keats's apology in a long letter he wrote, saying something like "I am sorry this is so long; I did not have time to make it shorter." Perhaps pass your letter to an intelligent friend and ask him/her if it makes your point well. Less is sometimes more.

They want details, I am giving them details. If not, then theyd probably ask for it after and delay my application. If they don't read it, then they are missing out on the details that they want to know. I will photo copy everything and make notes of everything I send them so they can't say later that I missed this and that.

But I can only hope that they read it and understand it.

That's the crux of the matter: how do you know CIC wants voluminous details? They never say so in the guides.

When my wife and I went to the interview, the CIC officer mentioned spontaneously that some people submit applications several inches thick. He said so in disbelief, as if it were a negative thing to do.

Concise is better. These agents don't have the time or interest in reading essay after essay and it slows down the process. You can be very clear and convincing without using tons of material. I think they would get annoyed at overkill.

That's exactly how I look at this whole process. The more efficient you are with what you submit, the easier it is for the VO. I try to put myself in their shoes...would I want to sift through a package which gets to the point or one that goes on and on? We must also remember we are dealing with government employees...

For our application, we're keeping it as straightforward as we can....just following exactly what is asked for...nothing more...nothing less...

I can tell by your posts that your application will be perfect.

There ought to be an exhibit at the Toronto art gallery...a huge display of completed CIC applications with the words "I am" in the middle (with a Canucks logo beside it, naturally!)....

And thanks for that, cagirl...
