Hello all. I was wondering, can the medical and background checks be completed BEFORE marriage? We're getting married next year and are fully aware that we cannot send in the application without being married first, but can we apply for the medical and background a few months prior to being married? We're just wondering because if either of these processes asks our marital status and we put SINGLE, this could be confusing to CIC when they're sent with the full application.

medical is only good for a year and normally VO would request remedial (if your VO would process your file in a year then you would not)
so you might wanna do medical before you send off your app.

background check means criminal record check?
if you are in Canada, you do not need to . CIC would check it out by themselves.
if you need to get from another country, you can get it now.
Criminal record check is only good for 6 month though.

I'm the sponsor from Canada, and she'd be the principal applicant from America. So it should be less than one year (Ottawa) and the check would be through the FBI. What my question is, though, is whether or not it would be a problem to do either of us before getting married?

she can do now before getting married.

this is similar question to yours.
