Hi Experts,

I have done my bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering (passed out in 2009) but working for an IT firm.
I have always believed that computer science is an abstraction over electronics. Unfortunately, not sure if the immigration folks believe the same.
Will I get points under AOT?

Thanks in advance.

They do quite often overlap - what is the issue?

What field of IT do you work in?

Actually most of my colleagues are with BE in ECE - working as Software Developers.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply. My NOC code would be 2172. I am working as a datawarehouse analyst. Since I have done bachelors of Electronics and Communications , I am wondering if I can get points of Areas of Training.

Thanks in Advance

I also have the same query. Thanks to sharif for posting this question.
I did bachelors of technology in electronics and communications engineering in India. I am currently working as a consultant in information technology noc :2171and 2174.
Can someone please suggest us?

Guys refer to here for more info: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/education-does-not-match-with-work-experience-t66969.0.html

Experience related to Education proves valid AOT and claims AOT points, otherwise you can only get Experience points regardless of your field of education.

You all shouldn't have any problem in as much as you meet the minimum score requirement without AoT points

The question is does electronics and communications education is considered related to IT (System Analyst job code)?

You should compare the courses in your electronics and communications transcript with what you do as a System Analyst. That is the same thing Quebec will do when they are assessing your application. The question does not have a yes or no answer until after you have made the comparison

Electronics subject does not have computer related subject except basic c or C++ labs.

Its electronics and communications mate. Computer subjects also have courses in communications.

Thanks cuteebony.

This is actually what is confusing me as the transcripts courses contain mix of communication and electrical courses as well as IT and computer related courses.

You are welcome M8. Just apply and leave the final decision to Quebec but don't put your 100% hope. You can as well try some other provinces.
