Hi,

I am currently trying to figure out if I can qualify for the home owner grant in BC in order to reduce my property taxes. I am a BC Provincial Nominee (and applied for PR but am not yet granted PR) and according to the following BC Government website, BC PNP holders are treated for the current and next tax year for tax purposes like Canadian Citizens:

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/...ax-works/terms-definitions#provincial-nominee

I was wondering whether I can use this definition to qualify for the BC home owner grant as well because it states that one must be either a PR or Canadian citizen.

Anyone who has done this or has experience with this?

Thanks

No. You have to wait until you are a PR.

On what basis? Do you have a link? The link I have shown clearly makes an exception for provincial nominees. They are treated like Canadian citizens for purposes of BC taxes according to that link, hence my asking.

You are using the definition and link under the Speculation and Vacancy tax which is a program to buy property and turn your house into affordable housing units. They would give special consideration to those who aren’t PR and willing to turn their home into affordable housing units.

The rules you're quoting related specifically to the speculations and vacancy tax.

The rules for BC Home Owner Grant are here:

Do I qualify?
