Yes, the cost of living in Canada is high and even those who have worked here all our lives find that there are few couples where only one partner works. Childcare costs are high, so you have to factor in whether the second salary is high enough to offset that expense when both parents work.
From what McBoy is saying it sounds as if getting any job in Canada, not just one in your field, is a good step toward learning the culture and gaining the desired experience. You've got a great discussion going on in this thread. Keep it up.

@McBoy
Could you please elaborate on *censored word *ized" ? What do you actually mean ?

Recently One of my friend who is in Toronto told me that he is getting 45$/hour for a IT testing job in Bank of Montreal. Also he said market is good as of now. So, say if i work for 8 hours per day I will be getting 360$ per day. That's a good salary for a testing job. Any landed immigrant who are already in Canada can give me correct picture on the scenario.
Thanks in advance.
regards,
FD.

To get a job in the same profession, even if a person with 10+ years of job experience in other country, the Canadian employers will usually look for his CANADIAN JOB experience and history in Canada. As other members mentioned the remuneration always depends on the employer's discretion considering the candidate's job related backgrounds. There is no standard basic salary system but can expect an hourly rate approx.. ranging from $15/- to $30/- for the beginners before tax deduction. Usually in the beginning people try to get in to any suitable job for survival and try to look for better positions.

I think it also depends on which skills and certifications you have.

For example, I am a Microsoft certified professional developer with a host of Microsoft certifications, and these are recognised worldwide. From this point of view I fail to see why experience in Microsoft products in another country is of less value than similar experience working for a Canadian company?

I think that knowing the salary is important, but it's more important to know the cost of living, it is really high! (renting a house, buying a car, insurance, transportation, etc etc)
