Basic Rules for Study Permit

Hi,

Can someone please help me understand how Study permit granted. Multiple thoughts

1) Study permit till the time student is supposed to study at the school e.g. Studies getting over on Jan 31, then valid study permit till Jan 31.

OR

2) Study permit till the time student is supposed to study at the school + 90 days . E.g. studies getting over on Jan 31, then valid study permit till Jan 31 + 90 days
