Dear Rafin

I think your background check is not completed yet. Could you please elaborate which country you have visited. Do you have any link up with any GOVt or Military orga. Your current country can also be a factor in these background checks. Some agencies take longer to respond and some even don't bother to respond at all of this security checks. Are you married, then your wife's background check also needs to be complete before the ecas turns into "In Process"

Hope this help
Take care.

What is the background check actually and what matters involved with it?

Background & Security Checks

Note: Our Background Check comprises of 2 parts:
1. The Standard Documentation Checks,
2. The Security & Criminality Checks.

Standard Documentation Checks:
Our background check is done at the CHC stage. It commences the moment our file gets the 1st BFD by the VO. An indicator of which is the e-CAS that shows "In Progress". All docs been checked & our NOC being tallied against the MI, if the VO finds our case 'eligible' for Canadian PR, the file becomes 'Accepted'; and then it goes for standard background checks, viz. Exp, Quals, Adaptability, Qualitative Considerations etc.

The process involves many things. If our case file is well presented and the enclosures vouch the quality-quantity, adequate POF docs etc., there might not be a requirement of 'actually' calling the employers, references etc. The VOs have a way with that, they are experienced enough to ascertain the logical disposition of our case. But, if there are any concerns of his/her, s/he is likely to ask for additional docs, do further scrutiny vide any means [calling, visiting etc.] & might ask for an Interview.

-Culmination: When 'fully' satisfied, we get the 'Medical Request'.
-Timeframe: Can be anything around 3-8* months, for the 'fast track' system (Avg. 4-5 months).
-eCAS: Continues to Show 'In Process'.
*The older system has a queue, thus can be longer.

Security & Criminality Checks:
A part of the b/ground checks is the 'Security Check'. It commences after our med results are submitted to the CHC. This is a major activity -mainly concerning our 'safe inclusion' into the Canadian Soil; vis-a-vis, Political, Socio-Econmical, Anti-Social disposition, perceived Threat to Canada's integrity etc. This gets us the SDEC, CDEC & SECCRIM.

This is a serious & time-consuming stage, involving many agencies, including CSIS, Interpol, NASC, Database Checking & touch-base with Local Police. Many things are considered here... the No. of countries visited, Applicant coming from 'certain' countries, ex-Servicemen [including Law Enforcement services], Prolonged stay in a country w/out sufficient docs to prove cause, frequent traveling to certain nations, your *Name (?), Inter-Religion/Nationality Marriages etc.

If everything is simple & straight, the file soon gets into the 'final review' stage. If there are any 'red flags', our case goes into a 'spin'. Then our file might go to the local Police/CID agencies; the outcome/timeframe of which is beyond the control of CIC. And thereby the timeframe can be anything [sometimes beyond 1yr]. But, usually this stage should be over by 5 months max. However, a point to be noted is that we can also be called for an Interview [at this stage], due to this reason.

-Culmination: Only upon security clearance we receive the PPR.
-Timeframe: Around 2-6 months. Avg. 3 months. [With new system, sometimes PPR is clubbed with Meds]
-eCAS: Still 'In Process', but 'Med Results Recd.' inside.

*Yes, that's how a certain Mr. Sharukh Khan was detained for 4.5 hrs in an US port. He was a VIP, thus 4.5 hrs. For u & me -things could be different.
...
The Process in a Nutshell:

Stage-1: [CIO stage] Send Initial Apps+Processing Fees to CIO-NS > Qualitative Check > Issue of AOR+120 days Letter >

Stage-2: [CHC stage onwards] Send Full Docs+RPRF to the Local Visa Office > File on Queue > e-Cas: "Received by Visa Office" > Eligibility Check+PSDEC > Issue of 2nd AOR > Background Check > Issue of Additional docs Request [if any] > 1st BF'D > e-Cas: "In Process" > Send Addnl. Docs > Issue of Med Request > 2nd BF'D >

Stage-3: Meds Sent > e-Cas: "Medical Results Recd." > Issue of PPR* > Send Passport/s > Security Check > Visa/s Stamped > e-Cas: "Decision Made" >
*The Meds & PPR are sometimes 'clubbed' together.

Stage-4: Return of 'Stamped' Passport/s+COPR > Landing at the POE > e-Cas: "Completed".

hello idas
first of all. congratulations . you experienced a faster immigration processing .
it seems that there is a long procedure involved in the background checks.but I am confused a little bit . In case of Rafin, he didn't mention anything you guessed such as :relationship with the gov. organizations, military organization and so on for which a background check could be a time consuming factor. could you please explain the procedure of a background check here . The Bangladeshi forum members as well as all the members of this site would be very much benefited from your writings here. now for me ,its nearly 4 months elapsed since we gut the second AOR from CHC and the e-cas shows "received by visa office " and they are pending review. what's this?

please share your experience .

best regards

Thanks Idas for your prompt reply. I went to Australia on 2003 and stayed there for 4.5 months and I mentioned it in my papers. I went there for studying but did not complete. My catagory is 0111 so from the begining I do private jobs so no govt. or army job issues. My wife is house wife. My ielts result is 6.5. My sister and uncle lives in Canada for a long time. I applied in 2008 but due to NOC change they returned my application. Now in new catagory I have applied again. I have submitted mine as well as my spouses PCC and all education papers in sealed envelope. I have updated my daughters all information as she was born after my initial application lodging.

So now can you tell me now when may I get medical request?

As you have lived in aus for 4.5 months normally you don't need a PCC form there, If VO wants then s/he can do a chk there that might take some time. Apart from that only two things can delay u'r process. One is your Relative in CA (if you claim points from them) which is one more step to check for VO. Whether they are self sufficient and is not taking any social aid and not involve in any criminal activity.

The other one is your daughters info (Congrats on being a father :) ). When ever you interrupt a normal processing (I know this was the only thing u or i could do) the VO gives the file a BFD to check all the changes done is ok as per CHC and till the BFD they do nothing about that file (I may be wrong, but that's what i saw in some prv cases like pregnant or re med requests etc).

This is an over simplified equation
App to CIO + 90 ( +/- 30) Days to Get AOR1, Next BFD = Date of AOR1 + 120 Days, Next BFD = Completion of Security and Background Chk (Around 120 +/- 30) days which is Med and RPRF req. Next is just mailing delay Around (60 +/- 30) days to get the PPR and Visa.

I cant say when SG will issue your med but i know it shouldn't be late then Mid Oct unless they find any hole in your application.
When i applied i was mentally prepared that i wont get any result before Feb 11, But having that mind set i could not take the pain of waiting. So i know what you are feeling right now. But my suggestion is have faith and determination, you will achieve the goal.

Regards

One more good news. HEMEL got his PPR today. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Should I or Should I not?

Hi,
I am at serious Emergency.
Need your frank comments please.
I am in the process of applying for F1 (Student) Visa for USA. Now, I have to submit a questionnaire. The last question in that questionnaire is- Did you apply for immigration or citizenship to any other country? If yes, then which country and what is the status of your application.

Please, I know it is awkward, but given the fact that my being a potential immigrant to Canada, the US consulate may reject me from Student VISA there. So, should I disclose that I have applied for Canadian Immigration in the Student Visa form for US?

I have only 24 hours to decide. I am sincerely looking for your pragmatic suggestion (no matter how awkward it is!).
