Hi all

I know it is still early but it doesn't hurt to find some info

Our application for sponsorship will be in process any day now and hopefully my spouse will get her PR within the year (if we lucky enough - through Vienna)

My spouse is already on her 2nd month of pregnancy and delivery is expected around October 2013. We do not want to waste any time here in Europe and we like to move to Calgary as soon as she gets approved.
Now if we have ample time lets say she is approved sometime in August and we can fly (many airlines allow a pregnant mom to fly up to 32 weeks- 8 months).

If time is not on our side then we can make arrangements for the baby to be born here in our home country.
What can we do after this? Lets say that, baby is born here but we want to leave immediately after mom and baby are ok to travel.
Do we have to wait another crazy period to start PR process for the baby or we can take it with us and do the process in Canada.I am the Canadian sponsor.

I know that some of you have been in the same boat so I would appreciate any answers that can help us to plan ahead of time!

Regards to all and God bless

Since one of the parent is a Canadian citizen, your child will be Canadian citizen automatically. You can apply for the citizenship certificate and if you want to travel immediately, you can apply for a temporary passport for the child. There is one exception which i have taken it from CIC site. Hope this helps

"In general, a child born to a Canadian parent outside Canada before April 17, 2009, is a Canadian citizen. However, a child born to a Canadian parent outside Canada on or after April 17, 2009, is a Canadian citizen at birth only if that child is born in the first generation outside Canada, that is, at the time of their birth, their Canadian parent:

was born in Canada, or
became a Canadian citizen by immigrating to Canada (becoming a permanent resident) and being granted citizenship (also know as naturalization)."

Hi muksi and thank you for the quick reply

Very useful info you have provided here! If I understood correctly the later category is actually my case as I am a naturalized citizen so my child will be Canadian by birth...correct?
Now how fast can one actually get a temporary passport for a newborn baby through a local embassy?. I guess I can always call the embassy and find out most likely they have all the info there!

Much appreciated my friend

Take care

One thing to look into - if for any reason your child is not Canadian, you can always travel with him/her on greek passport, and enter as a tourist. Once you are in Canada, you can sponsor him/her.
If you find out that the baby is not Canadian and he/she is born before the PR is issued for your wife, then you need to inform Vienna, and add him/her on the application so the PR will be issued both for the baby and the mom at the same time - much easier.

About timeline to get passport etc - on the website it says it takes quite a long time to get a certificate of Canadian citizenship, but you can also ask for the "urgent procedure" - in that case, explain that the PR has been issued and that you need to travel as soon as possible because of expiry of the COPR etc, and they can process the application much faster.
Good luck,
Sweden

Thanks Sweden :)
the border officer asks the baby reason of visiting and baby replies goo goo da da (translated from babyish = TO visit Canada)
Seriously now I will check all the options as soon as our apps are on their way and then act upon it

Cheers

Check out this link. There's a quiz if you scroll down. You can take it hypothetically as your child.

I'm sure the border officer would be very convinced! :-) that seems like a good reason - and I can see that you are already preparing by learning a new language etc! well done!

Did you get news from your app? did it arrive?

If not, you can let the officer change the diaper. Put a note inside "I want to go to Canada with my parents."

Or let the baby bite the officer's finger!

Hey I got the experience form 26 years ago hehe. Actually I was supposed to be a grant daddy at this age but instead I have to practice my babyish once again :D

Sweden look at this below. Actually any moment now it should be arriving at the CIC-M. Finally after all this anxiety and stress it finaly arrived in Canada. I dont understand though why it took so long
